Research & Planning: 'Good Bear Gone Bad'

'Good Bear Gone Bad' is a short video I produced for my employer, Dixons Travel for presentation at their annual managers' conference. The aim of the video was to highlight our Manchester Terminal 1 store 's customer plan.

I really enjoyed the process of coming up with ideas for the video, as my manager gave me creative freedom. I was even able to convince the actual Airport police to get involved; as you can see when Pudsey bear gets arrested, he is read his legal rights.

This project was a great opportunity for me to practice my production and editing skills. I was the 'producer' of the video, so I chose every element from the colleagues that would be involved, to the location and shooting schedule. I even got to order an (alleged) Pudsey bear costume. The shoot itself was very fun, as I was able to get a lot of my colleagues involved. We shot the footage using a Canon 6D SLR, and I edited it all together using Final Cut Pro X on an Apple Retina Macbook Pro.

Before I embarked upon this project, I had only scarcely used Final Cut Pro X, so I have managed to learn a lot whilst I was editing this video. I learnt to use different transitions, play with audio (such as remove background noise and make dialogue more prominent) and use different titles and video effects (such as the high contrast filter on the Pudsey bear sequence).

Overall I really enjoyed being part of this project and the skills I have taken away from it will help me detrimentally when producing and editing my own movie trailer.

With thanks to the Dixons Travel terminal 1 team and the Manchester Airport Police.
