Research & Planning: Lesson 1 - Purpose of Movie Trailers

During my first lesson on the course we spent time analysing various trailers to see what each of their purposes was and who they were trying to attract.

Trailer 1

Audience: 18 - 26 year olds, primarily male.
Genre: Action/Adventure.
Cast/Characters: Primarily males, aged between 20 and 35, working class.
Purpose: To get people to come and watch the film when it is released and to create synergy around the film.

Trailer 2

Time: 1990.
Hook: Stone Roses fans.
Place: Manchester.
Problem: Getting to the concert.
Release Date: 27th May 2013.
Produced by: Vertigo Films.
Genre: Social Realist.
Audience: 16 - 45 year olds, primarily males, Stone Roses fans?
Cast/Characters: Primarily males, although romance does occur, working class background.
Purpose: To create a synergy around the film.

Trailer 3

Hook(s): Couple getting together (stereotypical romantic storyline).
Genre: Romantic Comedy.
Place: England.
Problem: They're not together.
Time: 1988.
Theme: Well known cast, love.
Purpose: To create a synergy around the film and to get people to go and watch the film once it's been released.
